Women Out-perform Men in Virtually All Facets at UK Universiities
Only at Oxford and Cambridge do men still hold level with women
- Women far exceed men in virtually every measurement of academic achievement at UK universities, a Higher Education Policy Institute report shows.
- Almost half of all young women are going to university already, while only 38% of men do so.
- Women are more likely to win spots at the best UK schools and then attain better grades once enrolled.
- Women are still the minority in such subjects as mathematics and physics, but they are the majority of students in other high-esteem subjects as law and medicine.
- The sole exceptions to female dominance are the elite schools of Cambridge and Oxford, where men still run even with women.
- The report said that the results were part of a global trend in which girls are gaining but also boys’ results are dropping.
