African Network for Women
Businesswomen's network gets support from Exxon Mobil
- The Africa Businesswomen’s Network has debuted at the World Economic Forum on Africa in an effort to build and support a continental network of businesswomen’s organisations.
- Initial network hubs are forming in Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda.
- The ABWN seeks to help African women succeed as entrepreneurs and leaders in the corporate world; foster global networking opportunities among them; and advocate policies that bring women more economic opportunities.
- Alyse Nelson, President and CEO of Vital Voices, which trains women leaders and entrepreneurs in emerging nations, said: “The ABWN will address some of the unique barriers women entrepreneurs face, including negative and unsupportive policy and social environments; poor access to input and output markets and technologies; and inadequate access to information.”
