Asian Women Proving More Resilient to Recession than Men

Business Power Conference in Malaysia brings successful women together

  • Women from across Asia gathered in Malaysia for the Asian Women Business Power Conference to share their experiences — and one of the lessons they took away is that women are surviving the recession better than men.
  • “You can get exceptional creativity from women in bad times and leaders are formed during difficult times,” Rita Sim, executive director of Sin Chew Media Corp, told the June 2009 conference.
  • The conference was proof of the expansion in the number and riches of women entrepreneurship in the last few decades in Asia. It offered motivational business talks and forums featuring women entrepreneurs from all over Asia.
  • Santha Naidu, managing director of HSE Management Sdn Bhd, said the enduring spirit of women is what gets them through good and bad times. “I know how tough times can be, so I do not pass the tough times to my staff. I review them and take the necessary corrective steps.”
