20-first’s Third Annual Global Gender Balance Scorecard

This survey is our annual invitation to see how the world’s leading companies lead on gender. With all the focus on ‘Women on Boards,’ we are once again urging the world to focus on a more meaningful metric: the ‘Gender Balance of Executive Committees.’ Our 3rd annual Survey of the world’s leading 300 companies shows that progress is being made and that American companies are leading the way. While the quota debate rages in Europe and 68% of the region’s top 100 companies have dutifully appointed more than a token female non-exec to their Boards, the gender balancing of Executive Committees lags far behind (only 20% of European companies have at least 2 women). Yet the executive leadership team is far more representative of the will and seriousness with which different companies have tried to balance their management talent over the past couple of decades.
