- Jordan’s National Council for Family Affairs has documented how women are underinformed of their rights at work and how many of those rights have been undermined by legal loopholes.
- To combat this unfairness, the NCFA will hand out by the end of 2009 guides informing working women in the private sector of their rights.
- The council is also calling for a review of labour laws to make sure that working women, especially mothers, receive the same protections as men.
- According to an NCFA study issued in April 2009, legislation is needed to close escape clauses that allow private-sector employers to evade enforcement of human rights rules and international conventions, such as those pertaining to minimum wage, working hours, night shifts, dangerous workplaces and types of occupations that harm women’s health.
- The study also called on companies to establish nurseries for children of working mothers.
