Standard Chartered Bank Opens All-Woman Branch in Sri Lanka
All-female staff is a first in the country; investment workshops planned
- Standard Chartered Bank opened the first all-woman branch by an international bank in Sri Lanka, with the Kirulapone branch featuring only female staff, including security guards.
- The branch will offer female customers not just greater privacy and independence but also workshops on financial planning and investment strategies. But male customers are not barred from the branch.
- Standard Chartered is a leading bank in Sri Lanka and across Asia; it already has a similar branch in Kokata, India. Worldwide, it operates an aggressive Diversity and Inclusion programme within the company.
- At the branch opening, Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, Head of Consumer Banking in the country said, “Standard Chartered intends to be a leader in gender diversity by 2011. The need to achieve leadership in this area is driven by business imperatives and organizations have understood that if they do not address this issue they could face the prospect of losing 50% of the potential leaders of their workforce.”

I personally Thank Anirvan Ghosh Dastidar, for recognizing the need of special services for Women in the Banking sector, and further inducting all female Staff Bank Operation - this clearly shows his concerns towards Equality and Equal opportunity especially to women.
It is a great example to the International Banking community and must learn such example, and Banks world over must rise and show similar response to the women folks.
