- The 9th Annual Global Banking Alliance for Women Summit in Singapore decided on a two-prong program of targeted loans and substantive training, in particular for women operating in less developed countries but also worldwide.
- The meeting, designed for the exchange of best practices for building women’s businesses within the current economic environment, urged banks to take a more active role in ensuring that women both qualify for loans and access the strategies and tools they need to grow sustainable businesses.
- Among the subjects about which women starting businesses need the most information are business plan preparation and templates, cash flow analysis, bookkeeping and human resources, the alliance said.
- Larke Riemer, Chair of the alliance, said: “The impact of the global economic downturn has hit women’s businesses particularly hard. … The silver lining is that many financial institutions are retooling their processes and boosting technical assistance so that women’s businesses can survive and grow against the odds.”
- The Global Banking Alliance for Women is a global nonprofit whose mission is to accelerate the growth of women in business and women’s wealth creation, while generating superior business outcomes for member financial institutions.
