Asia-Pacific Women Ever More in Charge of Finances
MasterCard survey results find big regional gains in female empowerment
- The 2010 MasterCard Worldwide Index Of Women’s Advancement for Asia/Pacific found that women continue to gain power and influence over finances.
- Women in the region say they have control over most of their household spending in 11 of the 14 economies, and in only 2 countries did their influence over spending decline.
- Region-wide, women exert control over spending in 65% of households, up from 53% a year earlier.
- The biggest gains in economic power for women were in Australia, Hong Kong and Malaysia.
- Women were more confident about their economic situation than men in Australia, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
- The average woman in the region reported she would maintain similar spending and saving levels over the next six months.
