"Women are socialised to have low aspirations to advancement"
The number of South African women in executive positions rose 6 percentage points last year to 23 per cent. That’s the good news. But even as the 2008 Business Woman of the Year Awards were being handed out in a Swazi resort, guests were reminded of how thoroughly discrimination blocks progress. “We also lack access to positions where women can demonstrate their ability to impact on the bottom line,” Nedbank Group Human Resources Director Shirley Zinn said.
