A Region Where Consensus and Quality of Life Are Prized
Balance is the key to the Scandinavian way of life. Consensus over hierarchy, devolved responsibility, longer vacations — all of these add up to a model that is in stark contrast to the tough-guy North American approach to business. Society as a whole, and women in particular, struggle with that highly competitive approach, which doesn’t recognize or value the feminine values that have to do with co-operation. So says the organizational development innovator Chris Schoch, who, extolling the Scandinavian model, adds: “Even if you’re the most powerful company in the world, if you don’t co-operate, you’re going to be in trouble.”
