A Year of Stagnation for Women at the Top
Slightly More Women on Boards, but Also More All-Male Boards
2008 was a year of stagnation for women in top corporate jobs, with a slight increase in board representation but also more all-male boards.
- The latest report by Catalyst, a group that works for diverse workplaces and to increase opportunities for women and businesses, found little to cheer about among Fortune 500 companies, compared with 2007.
- The number of women in corporate board positions inched up to 15.1% from 14.8% in 2007.
- There was no significant change in how many companies have none to three female directors, with a slight increase in the number with three offset by more all-male boards.
- Women held 15.7% of corporate officer positions, compared with 15.4% in 2007.
- Fewer women held top earner positions, at 6.2% vs 6.7%.
