How the EU pushes equality

The Treaty of Rome, which led to the European Union, endorsed gender equality in 1957. OK, so the reason was mainly economic protectionalism, but the push was there from the beginning. This article traces the calls and demands for equality throughout the history of the EU, and how those calls have established a framework, however imperfect, for the member states.
