New York Times Shows Clearly How Men Make More in Almost Every Sector
- In a graphic stunning in both its content and simplicity, The New York Times breaks down jobs across the US and depicts the wage gap in each.
- Hooray, women make more than men in three groupings: special education teachers, data-entry typists and postal service clerks.
- Oh, and men do as well and usually a lot better in every other sector. Among those with the most glaring inequalities, women make 40% less as doctors, 37% less as financial managers and medical scientists, and 35% less as retail sales clerks. Even among laundry workers, women are paid 31% less.
- By contrast, the biggest inequity in favor of women is postal clerks, where women outearn men by 4%.
- Sure, some of the gaps are attributable to all sorts of factors, ranging from family obligations to average tenure in the profession … to discrimination. But when you see the chart, it is hard to believe there can be any good explanation ….
