How UK lags in Women in IT, with Little Hope for Immediate Future
Worryingly few girls study relevant subjects ... but those who do do better than boys
- Women make up 45% of the UK working population but just 19% of the country’s IT professional workforce. according to the ‘Women in IT Scorecard by BCS, e-skills UK and Intellect. There are only two-thirds as many IT women in the UK as there are in Italy or Ireland.
- Not only are there fewer women, but they make a lot less, with younger female IT professionals, those younger than 20, making 14% less but women ages 40 to 49 earning 30% less.
- While far fewer girls study IT-related subjects in secondary education, they consistently outperform the boys.
