Bill Clinton links women's empowerment to fighting climate change
Bill Clinton
- Speaking at Fortune’s green conference, the former US President Bill Clinton argued that the empowerment of women would lead to a more moderate world population growth.
- And as population growth is seen as one of the major contributors to rising levels of greenhouse gases, this would help to fight climate change.
- Clinton believes that putting girls in school and providing women with access to micro-credit, capital and labour markets will “temper both the birth rate and climate change”, reported Fortune.
- Clinton said: “We need to find a morally acceptable way to slow down the population explosion in the countries that can’t take care of the people they’ve got now.”
