Sole Female Reserve Bank Board Member Objects to Quotas

Jillian Broadbent fears quotas could be counterproductive

  • “In the end I think there has to be a business case and I think the business case is the way,” Broadbent said in a speech, adding, “I’m still an optimist hoping the process will evolve.”
  • Quotas might result in “very offensive” criticism of top-level women, with those critics saying the women were advanced only because of their gender, Broadbent said.
  • Male-dominated companies instead must learn to recognize the value of diversity, the Coca Cola Amatil and SBS director said, noting that boards made up of “clones” make little business sense.
