Wales leads UK in telecommuters

3 in 10 workers use an office at home

  • At 29% of workers, Wales has the highest UK percentage of people using a home office to do their job.
  • 25% of southern England employees say they work from home, a May 2009 study of 4,500 people found, but only 22% of Scots.
  • The same survey found that 30% of Welsh companies are open to having workers use a home office.
  • Overall, a quarter of British firms offer their entire staff flexible workplaces, but a third offer no opportunity to work offsite.
  • British remote workers were most likely to use laptops, at 46%, or mobile phones, at 35%. 23% have broadband, but only 11% use a smartphone like a BlackBerry.
  • Men are 20% more likely than women to use technology in their telecommuting.
